Saturday September the 17th 2022, I cycled to Ede for the commemoration of Market Garden. A lot of people were on the road too. It made me slowdown on my bike and I thought: "it's a good to slow down and already think about it". I enjoyed all the people before me: the elderly, parents with children, small children on their own bicycle with father protecting the outside of the cycle path. I know that war is still everywhere in...

For a whole week, planes, helicopters and paratroopers were already present in this region. This in the run-up to the official commemoration on the Ginkelse Heide . Due to government measures, only a limited number of people were allowed to attend.I was lucky to have a card. It was amazing and emotional. Above a collage. Most people know that the movie "a bridge too far"is the movie about Market Garden. The bridge was, what is now called, the John Frost Bridge. I started the walk in my place, because that was also on the route. That's why I first passed Duno Plateau, the above taken picture. "After the liberation in 1945, only a heap of rubble remained of the well-known Hotel de Duno". It has not been rebuilt. More information about the walk. Because of my walk today I discovered this nice little coffehouse with Love for coffee and the plantations where the coffee comes from.
One of the activities I did was walking The White Ribbon Mile. It's a short symbolic walk through the floodplains of the Oude Kerk in Oosterbeek to the memorial monument on the River Rhine. The real route was from Hotel Hartenstein through the woods of Oosterbeek to the floodplains near the Rhine. It was than marked with a white ribbon to see where they should walk in the dark. A white ribbon is now only visible in the floodplains during the...
