Izzie en Bono

Izzie en Bono

Two very different dogs: Izzie the working dog: always busy. Only once did she stop playing on her own. She saw more than what we saw. She was "my" dog.  But also  very close to another person in her life.             Bono the show dog: high on the legs. Always kept a puppy appearance. She was very affectionate towards Ger.           In remembering:  https://youtu.be/CtkUXJKOB1A Maasmechelen 2016 2017 In 2018 Bono moved...

Swans

Swans

Swans are the largest of the waterbirds. Swans are generally monogamous. The reason: because it works for them! They do the heavy lifting together and both have a higher chance of raising young. It helps if you don't have to spend time and energy every year to find and seduce a partner. They can sleep on the water and even swim with one leg up It strikes me that they are often synchronized in action. White swans look similar, but...

Small multi-tone songbirds

Small multi-tone songbirds

Songbirds, and I mean the ones with muli-tone song : a large group. Each with its own sound. Therefore recognizable. Every human being has its own sound too. Just as we don't want to change songbirds, we shouldn't want to change a person either. I always try to respond to a bird's call: that works fine with a blackbird. He also responds on my wisthles:  Another miracle of nature. The reason why I choose the photo above. And under: a...

Birds of prey.

Birds of prey.

Freedom; Attention to detail; Patience; Groundbreaking; Qualities that come to my mind when I see a bird of prey; either 'praying' in the air or sitting on a pole. And then, suddenly, at a speed down into the field to catch the prey. The buzzard ( see above)  and the little falcon are the ones I see the most. I sometimes find it hard to see what it is.  Most times they fly away before I can take a picture....

Airborne Landings and Commemoration 2021

Airborne Landings and Commemoration 2021

For a whole week, planes, helicopters and paratroopers were already present in this region. This in the run-up to the official commemoration on the Ginkelse Heide . This year on Saturday 18th september. Due to government measures, only a limited number of people were allowed to attend.I was lucky to have a card. It was amazing and emotional. During the annual commemoration, we honor the heroes of Operation Market Garden on Ginkelse Heide together with veterans, invited guests and our...

The Poles of Driel

The Poles of Driel

When I read the history of the Poles of Driel, I was ashamed of my government; “In 1939, at the outbreak of World War II, Sosabowski fought in Warsaw against invaded German troops. He managed to escape as a prisoner of war. After a journey through Europe he ended up in England. There Sosabowski founded the Polish paratroopers brigade with fellow countrymen and fellow sufferers, with which he took part in the Battle of Arnhem.” Scapegoat The Polish paratroopers were...

Airborne route 40km.

Airborne route 40km.

It was actually a walkroute, but I prefered to cycle it. The commemoration of Market Garden are very consciously experienced here. The whole month of September there are many special Airborn flags. Above a collage. Most people know that the  movie "a bridge too far"is the movie about Market Garden. The bridge was, what is now called, the John Frost Bridge.       I started at  Drielse Ferry A lot of people were on the road for one of...

Airborn walk 25KM

Airborn walk 25KM

I started the walk in my place, because that was also on the route. That's why I first passed Duno Plateau, the above taken picture. "After the liberation in 1945, only a heap of rubble remained of the well-known Hotel de Duno". It has not been rebuilt.       More information about the walk. Because of my walk today I discovered this nice little coffehouse with Love for coffee and the plantations where the coffee comes from.
White Ribbon Mile 2021

White Ribbon Mile 2021

One of the activities I did was walking The White Ribbon Mile. It's a short symbolic walk through the floodplains of the Oude Kerk in Oosterbeek to the memorial monument on the River Rhine. The real route was from  Hotel Hartenstein through the woods of Oosterbeek to the floodplains near the Rhine. It was than marked with a white ribbon to see where they should walk in the dark.  A white ribbon is now only visible in the floodplains during the...

Beetles

Beetles

Beetles come in all shapes and sizes. All of them can fly. The beetle has sacred symbolism and is traditionally revered in some cultures. Beetles also seem to have a medicinal effect and unfortunately and unnecessary, they are physically ground in all kinds of remedies, because you can always invoke the power of the beetle. The beetle shows you that you possess the power of love and peace and that that power is untouchable. The beetle's shield thus has a...
